PRIMEX Assistant Manager for Project Operations Lourdes Margarita Caballero delivered the inspirational message during the Testimonial of the College of Development Communication of the University of the Philippines Los Banos (CDC-UPLB) for its 124 graduates on 23 June 2016 at the SEARCA Umali Auditorium in Los Baños, Laguna.

Caballero finished her undergraduate degree in CDC, cum laude, in 2003 with six medals including Best Undergraduate Research and UPLB Outstanding Student Leadership Award. In her message, she discussed insights from applying development communication in international projects.

“What you learned from school is a good start but it is not enough,” she said. “What is more important is for development communicators to be well-versed in participatory techniques; be culturally sensitive, and committed to learning the technical aspect of the project where it be fisheries, climate change or energy or another field. You should also be creative and resourceful, and have a positive attitude.”

She also shared a story highlighting the importance of being open to different partners, specifically youth groups. She cited her experience in working with the One Direction Philippines Fan Club for a mangrove planting activity under the Coastal and Marine Resources in the Coral Triangle-Southeast Asia (CTI-SEA) project as an example. Caballero has been working with PRIMEX since 2011. She is currently assisting the supervision of the company’s ongoing projects.
