PRIMEX President and CEO Elvira C. Ablaza attended the Wrap-up Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Review Mission for the loan-funded Uplands Irrigation and Water Resources Management Sector Project (UIWRMSP) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 15 December 2016. It was the culminating activity of the Loan Review Mission which was held from 8-15 December 2016.
The Mission reported that it was satisfied with the progress of project implementation, particularly the construction of all ongoing civil works, which are all ahead of schedule. The Mission also pointed out that it is highly likely that the project will be completed one year and nine months before the scheduled loan closing date. The five-year project started on 15 February 2016 and it will end on 14 February 2021.
UIWRMSP aims to rehabilitate, modernize, and climate-proof selected irrigation systems in Kampong Thom and Battambang provinces. It is expected to enhance agricultural and rural economic activity through increased efficiency of irrigation systems, enhanced water productivity, and improved management of water resources.
H.E. Chann Sinath, Deputy Director General for Technical Affairs of the MOWRAM Department of Farmer Water User Communities (DFWUC) and UIWRMSP Project Director chaired the meeting. Others in attendance were ADB Mission Leader Raza Farrukh, Water Resources Specialist, representatives of the ADB Cambodia Resident Mission (CARM), the Project Management Unit (PMU), Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology (PDWRAM) of Kampong Thom and Battambang provinces, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF), the Inter-Ministerial Resettlement Committee (IRC), and the Project Management Implementation Consultant Team led by Dr. Jose A. Galvez, International Water Resources Specialist/Team Leader, and Mr. Ung Kotaro, Deputy Team Leader/National Irrigation Management Specialist.
