CTI Southeast Asia conducted its inception workshop in Indonesia on 25-26 September at Amaris Hotel Padjajaran in Bogor, Indonesia.The activity is the second in a series of three national workshops held in each of the three Coral Triangle countries by the Project Management Consultants made up of PRIMEX, TIA, and World Fish Center. Mr. Guillermo L. Morales, Team Leader, discussed the scope of work, implementation arrangements, and detailed work plan with the National Coordinating Committee (NCC). In turn, the NCC updated the project on the current implementation status of their National Plan of Action. During the breakout sessions, participants identified proposed subprojects that will be funded under CTI SEA. Among these were the following:
- Seascape and marine protected areas (MPAs)
- spatial database of Sulawesi Seascape
- strengthening of existing MPAs
- facilitation of the streamlining of the seascape approach with the WPP (fisheries management area) approach
- sustainable financing for MPA and seascapes
- support establishment of new MPAs
- Climate change adaptation
- Vulnerability assessment of selected coastal areas
- mapping the vulnerable sites in combination with remote-sensing techniques and ground trotting
- research on the impact of elevated sea temperature on mangroves, seagrass bed, coral reefs, and marine resources
- develop adaptation measures for demonstration in at least one coastal community in each of the CT3
